Dear Grandview Church Family,
Since I am a big football fan and a huge
Peyton Manning fan, I have been watching the
preparations for the Super Bowl with great
anticipation. However, it struck me that this
is a prime example of how misplaced our
priorities are during this day and age.
Everywhere we turn there are reports about
the Super Bowl: who will win; how they
will win; who is injured; who will play
and who will not.
Why do we allow the things of this world
to dominate the news and our lives so much
while we ignore the most important thing
-- Jesus -- and what we do for Him to be
suppressed and undisclosed? Oh, yes, we
see the report of the Baptists arrested in Haiti
for trying to help homeless orphans travel to a
new facility in the Dominic Republic, but do
we see regular reports on all the good things
that Christians are doing to help in the relief
efforts there? NO! That obviously doesn't sell
newspapers and television advertising like the
bad news does.
Wouldn't it be great if all of the Christians
in this world would stand up together and
change the world in a positive way? When
are we going to demand of our news media
equal time for the "good" done in this world
instead of sitting on the edge of our chairs
waiting for the "bad" news.
But, pastor, what can I do? I am just one
person. Well, first, we, His church, must ban
together in one mind and one accord to bring
about change in our world. The Lord didn't say
it would be easy, but He did say that He would
give us His Power to equip us to change the
world. We must claim His Power and do all
we can for His Kingdom. That may be just
being faithful to His church and helping build
the kingdom one precious soul at a time. But,
I must ask, "Are YOU doing everything today
that Jesus wants you to do?
